Overview

Always up to date, this course is designed to meet the Arizona biennial four-hour ethics CPE requirement for CPAs renewing their licenses. In addition to meeting Arizona State Board of Accountancy requirements, the course includes materials and examples designed to reinforce the CPA’s working knowledge of professional ethics standards.

Objectives

To reinforce knowledge that will allow a CPA to: Identify promulgated standards, state accountancy laws and other resources necessary to making informed ethical accounting and business decisions; Apply the newly adopted AICPA Code of Professional Conduct to both public practice and business situations; Familiarize participants with the new conceptual frameworks and their use; Fulfill responsibilities as required by the Arizona State Board of Accountancy.

Leader Bios

Gilbert B. Blumenthal, Gilbert B. Blumenthal, CPA

Blumenthal has been active in the Arizona CPA community since 1978. He received his training in two of the now “Big 4” CPA firms ultimately becoming a shareholder and managing partner of a local CPA firm that grew to become one of the larger firms in the Phoenix area. Prior to his career in public practice, he was a job analyst with ARCO in Philadelphia, PA. He also served in the United States Army in the Office of the Inspector General, Frankfurt, Germany.

Blumenthal has a diverse background in both public practice and business. In recent years his focus has been on teaching and a variety of consulting engagements. He is an experienced mediator and has also worked as a court-appointed Special Master specializing in complex financial disputes.

In addition to ethics, Blumenthal has authored CPE courses on fraud basics and negotiating skills. He feels both courses are timely and represent important competencies for CPAs. He also has authored a course on the CPA’s role in mediation and through the years has written numerous articles on a variety of accounting and business topics.

Previously, Blumethal served on the faculty of the Judicial College of Arizona for the New Judge Orientation Program as well as on the Arizona Society of CPAs’ Board of Directors. As a result of his long and varied professional career, he enjoys a strong relationship with the Arizona CPA community.
